Cruel Summer by Alyson Noel

Summary: After dumping her dorky image, and her best friend that went with it, Colby Cacendish is looking forward to a summer filled with tons of parties, BBQs, trips to the beach, and more future hookups with the hottest guy in school, Levi Bonham.

Colby's world soon comes crashing down.

Her parent's decided to send her away for the summer to Greece with her aunt Tally, which her parent's always called crazy.

While on the island, Colby worries that her new friends have forgotten her.

She has no mall, no cell-phone reception, and an aunt who talks to her plants.

But when Colby meets Yannis, a cute Greek local, her whole summer changes directions.

Colby soon discovers the difference between a summer fling and a real relationship.

It forces her to look inside of herself and try to find herself, in a new way.

Review: While I really love Alyson Noel, I didn't think that Cruel Summer was her best work. I think that it was a well written novel, but it didn't really capture me as much as others. Colby was a very interesting character. Her world was very complex and she did have some problems to deal with. I think that she did find herself in a very nice way. It was fun to see her world play out. I'm not that sure how to describe this novel by Alyson Noel. I think that this book is mostly for people who like to read more then the people who just wait for the right book for them.

Blog Backgrounds. :]

Hello to my few blog follows. :]

I seem to be having a difficult time finding a nice background for my blog.

I've trying a lot of different ones and I really can't seem to find one.

So, I was wondering if any of you would like to help me find a new background.

If you find something that you think I might like I would love it if you could post the link for the background in a comment on this post.

Or my chat box if that's easier for you. :]

This would greatly help me out.

And how knows if you help me find a background you might get a surprise. :] haha

Thanks Everyone,

YA Connection Contest!

YA Connection is holding a contest for Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson which comes out in March.

Click HERE to head to Steph's (Reviewer X) blog to enter! :]

Here's an excert from the book and Steph's thoughts on it.

“Dead girl walking,” the boys say in the halls.

"Tell us your secret,” the girls whisper, one toilet to another.

I am that girl.

I am the space between my thighs, daylight shining through.

I am the bones they want, wired on a porcelain frame.

Lia and Cassie are best friends, wintergirls frozen in matchstick bodies, competitors in a deadly contest to see who can be the skinniest. But what comes after size zero and size double-zero? When Cassie succumbs to the demons within, Lia feels she is being haunted by her friend’s restless spirit.

In her most emotionally wrenching, lyrically written book since the multiple-award-winning Speak, Laurie Halse Anderson explores Lia’s descent into the powerful vortex of anorexia, and her painful path toward recovery.

Secret Vampire: Part One of Night World No. 1 by L. J. Smith

Poppy wanted her summer to last forever.

To spend every minute she possibly could with James.

Poppy could tell that he was harboring a secret, but she wasn't sure what it could be.

She wanted to know though.

She thought this summer would be different.

But when Poppy was diagnosed with terminal cancer, she found out her summer would be different.

Just not how she expected.

Now Poppy has to rely on James to save her.

Not only is James her best friend, he soon becomes her secret lover.

As a vampire in the Night World, James has the decision to make Poppy immortal and ultimately save her life.

But doing so would mean that James has to go against all of the rules of the Night World that he belongs to whether he wants to or not.

4 STARS

I likes this book. Although I think it could of had a little bit more suspense and mystery in it. This was the first book by J. L. Smith that I've read but I really like her writing style. She is definitely very unique. Smith writes vampire novels very well. Considering that that's what she's known for. But within this book, there are two more parts that I still have to read, which deal witches. So I'm very interested in finding out how well J. L. Smith writes about different fantasy tales and things like that. :]

Alternative Cover 2

So everyone who is a fan of John Green has probably heard of his book An Abundance of Katherines.

And when they think of the book they probably think of this cover:

Well that is if you read the book before a couple years ago.

I think that's when the new cover came out:

Then again I'm not really 100% sure when this new cover came out.

I personally like the old cover more. I think it's simpler and to me it seems to fit in better with Green's other cover for Looking for Alaska and his newest one Paper Towns.

So like last time I would LOVE to know what YOU think about the cover.

Your favorite one and why you like that one. :]

Quotes! :]

I was really bored so I thought that I would share some of my favorite quotes from Paper Towns. :]

1. "I think she's surrently in like Omaha, Nebraska, visiting the world's largest ball of stamps."
-Radar (pg. 201)
I thought that this was hilarious. I live in Omaha, Nebraska and I didn't even know we had the world's largets ball of stamps! haha

This next one has kind of two parts.

2."But when it came right down to it, the skin of my wrist looked so white and defensless that I couldn't do it. It was as if what I wanted to kill wasn't in that skin or the thin blue pulse that jumped under my thumb, but somewhere else, deeper, more secret, and a whole lot harder to get."
- Margo reading from The Bell Jar (pg. 294)

3. "I know what she's talking about. The something deeper and more secret. It's like cracks inside of you. Like there are these fault lines where things don't meet up right."
-Margo (pg. 294)

I think that these two statement together are really powerful. They tell you a little bit more about Margo and how she feels about things.

4. "Forever is composed of nows."
-Margo quoting Emily Dickinson (pg. 296)
I acutally really liked this quote from Emily Dickinson. I think she is a really good poet and finding something of her's in a book was kind of cool to me.

5. "Nothing eve happens like you imagine it will."
-Margo (pg. 299)
I think that this quote from Margo is something that more people need to realize and remember about life.

6. "If you don't imagine nothing ever happens at all."
-Quentin (pg. 299)
I thought that this was a really good qoute from Q that counteracted what Margo said previously. (look above)

I would gladly welcome anyone telling me their opinion or even sharing a quote from Paper Towns that they also like. :]

Rating: 5 Stars

Review: John Green equals one word; AMAZING! I love all of his book. He has now become my favorite author ever. Which is a very nice title to have if I do say so myself. Paper Towns was a very well written novel about a very strange but intriguing concept. The more I read this book the more I thought about paper towns, the more I wanted to know. Margo was an excellent character. Very complex at times, but also very simple. Sweet and caring yet self centered. Then there's Q. I'm not sure what exactly can be said about him. He was probably my favorite character. I've always felt that John Green writes amazing male main characters and Paper Towns definitely proved that for me. I think everyone should read this book. Whether you like male main characters or not. Whether you've ever read something by John Green or not. I really think that anyone could enjoy this novel.

Identical by Ellen Hopkins

Summary: Twins
Do they begin in the womb, or somewhere else?

Kaeleigh and Raeanne.

Identical on the outside.

The inside is a different story.

Their father is a judge, their mother a politician.

On the outside they look perfect. Happy.

Just like Kaeleigh and Raeanne.

No one knows what's under the surface, though.

That's where Kaeleigh and Raeanne's differences show.

The misplaced love of their father goes to Kaeleigh.

The only thing Raeanne sees is her father playing favorites. A game which she is miserably losing at.

Kaeleigh's way of dealing is closing up.

Not telling. Not talking. Not letting anyone in.

Raeanne does things her own way.

Sex. Drugs. Alcohol.

It soon shows that these sisters can't handle things the way they want.

They can't control it themselves.

One has to save the other.

But who?

Rating: 5 Stars

This book was nothing like I expected Ellen Hopkins is a brilliant writer. When I got to the end of the book all I could think was whoa. Close to the end of the book I thought I knew what was going on, what was happening. But I soon found out that I had no clue. I've only read Impulse by Ellen Hopkins but I think that this book surpassed that. I love the way she writes. To me it seemed like she weaved all of the problems from her previous book into this one. Well some of them.

Cutting and Suicide- Impulse
Drugs and Sex- Crank and Glass

I know I'm leaving some others out. But I think you get the point. I love when author's do this, but I think that Ellen Hopkins has a special was of doing it. SURPRISE. I can't wait to read the other books but Ellen and buy Tricks when it comes out.

Ahhh, Finals.

FINALS!

My first time having to take high school finals.

I haven't even taken one test yet but I already hate it!

They give you too much to do!

You can't do 7 reviews in one night!

It's stupid!

I have to write an essay for geometry. GEOMETRY!

I actually have to write one in every class. It's "required".

Which made me laugh but whatever. lol =]

But when I get back from studying and test taking there should be an author interview. =]

Soooo I should probably get back to studying. Even though I hate it.

I will pass my finals. I will pass my finals. I will pass my finals.

^^ A little inside joke for those of you who have read The Rule Of Won. =]

Well goodbye everyone! =]

Wake by Lisa McMann

Summary: Your Dreams Are Not Your Own.

Not All Dreams Are Sweet.

Having to live every one's dreams every night is getting old for 17-year-old Janie.

She has to deal with the falling dreams. The naked dreams. The sex-crazed dreams.

She's seen enough dreams to last her for the rest of her life.

But, Janie can't tell anyone what happens to her every time someone around her falls asleep.

They wouldn't believe her or they would think she's a freak. Which is even worse.

So Janie lives her life alone.

With a mother who doesn't pay attention to her. A best friend who lives next door but is also best friends with Janie's enemy.

One day Janie gets sucked into a nightmare.

Worse then one that she has ever witnessed before.

But not only is Janie a witness she's also a participant.

Trying to control her "power", as some would call it, and trying to help others in the process is not as easy as she would hope.

Then the person she's trying to help becomes more important to her then anyone ever has.

Making the situation even more of a struggle for Janie.

Rating: 3 Stars

Review: When I first started reading this book I didn't think I would like it. I thought it was going to be a stupid read and that I would really hate it. BUT when I started to read it I was amazed at how the author wrote it. I felt like I was actually Janie a couple times. This was another one day read for me. Not because it was so boring but because I couldn't possibly put it down no matter how hard I tried. Which didn't make my mother very happy. I think that everyone would really love this book. Because if I started reading this book with a negative attitude but ended up loving it, I think anyone would really like this book. Now all I have to do is save enough money to buy Fade.

Th1rteen R3asons Why by Jay Asher

Clay Jensen realizes that his name is on the list of the 13 reason for a different reason.

Hannah becomes his guide.

To her pain. To her sorrow.

Clay has to face the truth about Hannah's life.

How he effected her. How he left her.

Rating: 5 Stars

Review: I really loved Thirteen Reasons Why. I read it in about one night. I could not put it down no matter how hard I tried. All of the different stories had so much depth to them. They were so intriguing, so inviting. I wanted to know how everyone fit together. How everything effected Hannah. But also how Clay played a role. And maybe how much I could relate to Hannah. Even though she was a fictional character. I actually found myself relating to her more then I probably should have. I could also figure out where the other people in my life could fit into the story. That's probably a bad thing but oh well. Anyway! Back to the story. I think that everyone should read this. Yes the material is graphic in a few places. Yes the story line is a sensitive subject. Yes I cried. But still read this amazing book, Thirteen Reasons Why, which is the debut novel of Jay Asher.
